Matrescence guidance
Personalized support for the transition from woman to mother (and from mother of one to mother of more)
Disorientation in the transition to motherhood and early years of it is normal. Navigating it alone is hard.
In our culture, women are largely moving through the transition to motherhood without context, understanding, or support tailored to this significant life shift.
Perinatal care is focused on the baby and largely silent on the feelings and shifts in mindset and identity that mothers experience in their transition to motherhood.
This leaves women alone and confused in a culture that expects them to snap into motherhood easily, joyously, and unchanged.
matrescence guidance eases your transition to motherhood and empowers you inside it
Matrescence guidance is for women:
Preparing for the transition to motherhood for the first time
Preparing to welcome another child and expand into a mother of more children
Adjusting to motherhood for the first time
Adjusting to life with an additional child
Feeling disoriented or mournful in the early years of matrescence

what to expect
As a matrescence doula, I am trained and equipped with perspective and insights on how to move through the path to motherhood with ease and empowerment.
My role in our sessions is to prompt, listen, and guide you to the perspectives and exercises that your motherhood experience will benefit from the most.
Each session is audio recorded and includes a summary of notes and guidance sent after the session, plus voice memo / text support to help you integrate what was shared.
I’m Kate
I’m a mother of two and a matrescence doula
When I learned the word “matrescence” everything I had been experiencing in my first two years of motherhood suddenly made more sense.
My motherhood support practice was born a few years later after stretching from a mother of one daughter to a mother of two while recovering from a traumatic birth experience.
Each of my matrescence experiences is with me in my space holding for mothers — I know the joyous growth matrescence can deliver and the brutal shattering that can accompany it.
It is my honor to offer support, listening, perspective, and space holding for women in this potent life shift.
MY PHILOSOPHY & BACKGROUND
My guidance and space holding centers on you and your truth, no matter what motherhood looks like for you or how you come to it.
I meet you where you are, supporting you through what feels best to you in mothering, honoring that each of our motherhood journeys and experiences is entirely our own.
My aim is to lend you my stability, care, and deep empathy, and respect for the matrescence process so that you can find your center, your truth, your highest self, and your way forward.
I bring learnings from a range of coursework, life experiences, self work, and support groups, including wisdom from my own matrescence, studies with Seasons of Matrescence, Birth Story Medicine, personal experiences in traumatic birth and postpartum suffering, as well as the feminine experience I’ve witnessed in others through mother’s groups, women’s circles, and friendships.
